I was praying one morning asking the Lord to cleanse me from all of my unrighteous acts and I was struck by the fact that He won’t clothe us in our unrighteous acts but only in our righteous ones.
Revelation 19:7-8 are the foundational verses for the Fitted For Grace bible study (coming out soon) but yet I had not quite made this connection before. The verses say, “Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready. And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.”
These verses reveal to us that the righteous acts we commit here on earth become the fabric of the garments we will be given to wear in heaven. 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 explains that the works of our life will be tested with fire – the unrighteous ones will burn up like wood, hay and stubble but the righteous ones will remain.
His goodness is demonstrated in this act of burning away our unrighteous acts, never to have them appear again. Even if you arrive on THAT day with nothing but unrighteous acts, His love for you will make sure that those acts are gone forever! His heart of love towards us is demonstrated in every action on His part towards us. He takes away the unrighteous, because that is a wrong definition of who we are. He always rightly defines us by cleansing us from what is wrongly defining us, like sin, and revealing our true identity of right-ness in Him.
He will never allow us to remain clothed with our unrighteous acts!
We can choose to ignore or disbelieve His invitation to receive cleansing while we are on this earth, but if you belong to Him, then for eternity you will be free from your unrighteousness. Even the pain of having your works judged and seeing a bunch of them go up in smoke is an act of redemption that frees you from the stigma of unrighteousness for your eternal life. That is GOOD NEWS!
I pray that you won’t wait until THAT day to be free from the unrighteous acts that wrongly define you but you will receive cleansing and covering NOW. He doesn’t see you as defiled and soiled, but as He created you: pure and clean. Oh to realize that He is not like us. He is not punishing, rubbing our noses in the mess we made. He never does that! He is always looking at us with eyes of loving passion declaring, “You are lovely even in your weakness.” (Song of Songs 6:4 TPT) He offers cleansing at any time we decide to come to Him for it because He is for us, not against us. All we have to do is believe it and strip off the unrighteous acts that hang around us like a veil so that the beauty of His goodness in us can be unveiled and revealed.
