The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. Isaiah 60:3
Have you noticed a recurring theme? There’s a reason for it. We are such an integral part of God’s plan, and He wants to be sure we “get it.”
Today’s verse reflects the cause and effect of light. The light shines, and there is a response. The previous verses indicate the light and glory of the Lord will be upon His people. And because of that light, others who need the light will be drawn to it.
God’s plan of salvation was always to include all the people of the earth. His glory was intended to cover the entire world, and that can only happen when people all over come to the light of salvation.
Anyone who has turned on a light at night can understand this concept. Turn it on, and they will come – bugs cannot resist the light!
Jesus confirmed God’s heart to include the Gentiles (non-Jewish people) when He said,
“And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice and there will be one flock and one shepherd.”
His ingenious plan was to work through Israel to draw all nations to Himself, they were to be the light to the nations.
The Light was born of a virgin (for in-depth information on this topic, click here), as a Jew thus fulfilling today’s verse. Gentiles are invited in, and are also the light; because of that, we now step into the original purpose: to draw the lost and unsaved to the light of Jesus.
Our light is supposed to be so mesmerizing, bright and attractive that none could resist!
As we daily die to self and press more and more into Jesus, His light will shine brighter. It’s like we each have a lamp lit in our hearts, but sometimes the windows get a little dirty. They get covered with filth and grime. Attentiveness to the temple through daily interaction with the Lord keeps the windows clean, allowing the light to penetrate the darkness more effectively.
So, shine bright! You ARE the light of the world.
