It Was Just Flower Arranging

It Was Just Flower Arranging

I was prepping for my daughter-in-law’s baby shower and I’d been on my feet all day. It was getting late and I was super tired and achy. And, as it turns out, my husband had a difficult time getting home in Friday rush hour traffic. He didn’t make it until after 8 pm with the flowers I’d requested him to pick-up for the shower. Although I was so tired and really wanted to rest in my bed, I unwrapped each bundle of flowers and began sorting them by color and type. I had a vague sense of what I wanted them to look like, and what I didn’t want, but as I gathered up the stems, I just couldn’t make the bouquets look right. (I think the Lord skipped over me when He passed out the creative ability to beautifully arrange flowers. That’s not a 'poor me' statement, just reality. He gave me other gifts, by His design; but here I was, needing...

Shaking

Shaking

“For thus says the Lord of hosts: “Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land;” Haggai 2:6 I was standing at the copy center waiting patiently (it doesn’t help to be in a hurry at the copy center. And you must go in knowing that what should take two minutes, will take at least thirty). The overwhelmed copy girl kept setting copies of my project in front of me and scurrying away before I could respond. She did ask if they were okay, but I was confused. I asked for scans, not copies. I kinda nodded my head in agreement. After what seemed like an eternity – an inordinately long time, given the nature of the job, which was to scan four drawings and put them on a thumb drive – she scooped up the copies and went to scan them. “Oh, wait!” I exclaimed. “That’s what the copies are for? Those are way...

Ready To Receive

Ready To Receive

I recently had lunch with a friend who is passionate about pursuing her God dream. (Click here to visit her website – she writes and podcasts extensively on this topic!) We discussed several challenges we all face in following our dreams, even the ones where we question whether or not we are supposed to pursue them or let them die. Following this conversation a key thought formed in my heart. Contentment is void of striving. The absence of striving results in rest and, rest positions our hearts to receive. When your heart is not striving, but resting in the place of God’s sovereignty over your life, then your heart is open to receive. God can breathe and bring to life His plans and purposes. It is in the place, where striving has ceased, that what seemed to be dead and gone is breathed to life through His power, resurrection, and in His perfect timing. Many of us have a God dream, but...

Say Yes To Grace

Say Yes To Grace

Sometimes it is God’s grace to wake up at 4 a.m. It's an invitation from God to embrace His grace! The wakefulness is an answer to the prayer for more of Him, but the call to step into grace is not always answered with an enthusiastic yes, but with a groan and a disdain for being awake at an “ungodly” hour. These are the times when we have a choice to accept grace or not, where we must deliberately step into it and make a conscious decision to pursue a closer, more intimate journey with the Lord.   The Lord is faithful and loving, and He will always respond to us from His nature and character. He is for us, not against us, and is working and interceding to see that we are a success. He is committed to helping us accomplish the works prepared in advance for us (Ephesians 2:10) and to receive our purpose, hope, and future (Jeremiah 29:11); yet...

A Fresh Look At Grace

A Fresh Look At Grace

Grace is a word we hear and use so often that many of us don't even consider its meaning or its work in our lives anymore. In some ways, it's become a cliché, a redundancy that floats around in our vocabulary inoculating us to its power in our lives. It's a word that has been overused, misused and misunderstood. Grace is not just a word destined for a plaque on the wall, nor is it a free ticket to sin or do whatever you want. Grace is power. It is supernatural, and a fresh perspective on grace will rejuvenate your walk with the Lord. I had come to a place where I didn't consider grace too much. It had become a cliché to me. But, as I began to pray for the coming year, the Lord breathed the word grace into my heart, awakening me to consider this supernatural phenomenon once again. If you've gone through my bible study, Fitted For Grace, then you...
